Speech team to hold showcase Thursday

The Bloomington speech team will hold its eighth annual Speech Showcase from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the Oak Grove Middle School auditorium, 1300 W. 106th St.

A selection of Jefferson and Kennedy high school students will perform these speeches: Jeremy Kuoch, humor: "Prime Baby"; Brendan Klein, oratory: "Three Crown Control"; Alexa Schirber, humor: "Pageant Play"; Raeshawn Payton, drama: "Caught Up in the Rapture"; Dora Deak and Ella Marzolf, duo: "Making Toast"; Dora Deak, drama: "My Father, Dancing," and Kathy Wang and Josh Magnus, duo: "Harrison Bergeron."

All other team members will perform short sections of their pieces. Tickets are available at the door and are $3 for students and $5 for adults.

Jefferson to present student-directed play

Jefferson High School will present "The Nine Worst Breakups of All Time" at 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, in the school's auditorium, 4001 W. 102nd St.

Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.

Legacy nominations deadline approaching

Nominations for the Legacy Awards are due March 23 in the Eden Prairie School District. The awards honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the district.

Awards are made for Teacher of the Year, Staff Employee of the Year, Alumnus of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Student of the Year. Nomination forms are available at each school site and at www.foundationforepschools.org/legacy. Winners will be honored May 6.

ORONO

Band will present POPS concert

The Orono High School Band will present the annual POPS concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the school's gym. The evening will feature performances by each of the school's bands. Tickets are available at the door and are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $3 for children aged 5 to 10.
