West metro school briefs: Hopkins theater program offers 'Musical Comedy Murders of 1940'

School actors present 'Comedy Murders'

Hopkins High School's theater program, Royal Productions, will present "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" on May 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. in the Hopkins High School Theater.

"The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" is not a musical, but a comedy inspired by 1940s-style mystery movies. Written by John Bishop, it opened on Broadway in 1987. The play is directed by Natalie Foster and involves more than 25 Hopkins students.

Admission price is $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door and at www.hhs theater.org. The theater is located at 2400 Lindbergh Dr., Minnetonka.

Eighth-graders present 'Wizard of Oz'

Blessed Trinity's eighth-graders will perform "The Wizard of Oz" on Friday, May 16.

Performances will be at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Academy of Holy Angels Theater. There is no cost for admission. The Academy of Holy Angels Theater is located at 6600 Nicollet Av. S. in Richfield, next to Blessed Trinity's Nicollet Campus.

Waconia

District is named Green Ribbon school

Waconia Public Schools has been named a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

The school district ranks among 48 schools and nine school districts from across the nation to be named a Green Ribbon School, an award that recognizes their environmentally friendly efforts to cut utility costs, implement conservation strategies and cultivate healthy, productive classrooms.
