Minnetonka High School senior Annmarie Schmid and her synchronized ice skating team, the Lexettes, recently took home a gold medal from the International Skating Union-sanctioned Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria. The Lexettes topped 12 teams from eight countries to win the Junior Division championship.

The Lexettes are based in Lexington, Mass. Schmid, who lives in Maple Grove, is completing her school coursework online as she and the Lexettes prepare for three more competitions this season: the Junior World Team Selection event Feb. 10-11 in Simsbury, Conn., the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships Feb. 23-25 in Rockford, Ill., and the World Junior Championships March 10-11 in Mississauga, Ontario.

Highly ranked wrestlers

While the west metro is not considered a wrestling hotbed, three wrestlers from the area are ranked by theguillotine.com among the top 10 seniors in Minnesota regardless of weight class.

St. Michael-Albertville 170-pounder Jake Allar is ranked No. 2, Delano 132-pounder Tucker Sjomeling is No. 4 and Waconia 120-pounder Garret Vos is No. 9. The state's top-ranked senior is Kasson-Mantorville 170-pounder Brady Berge.

Heading to Coastal

Chanhassen's Alex Spillum, who quarterbacked the Storm to an undefeated regular season and led it to the Class 5A, Section 2 final, committed to Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
