Arrests for drunken driving in Bloomington have fallen dramatically in recent years, mirroring a statewide trend, according to a report to the City Council.
Arrests dropped by about 30 percent from 2012 to 2014, with a total of about 425 DWI arrests made in 2014.
The city has a special fund for proceeds from DWI vehicle forfeitures, and the council has had to lower its budget estimate for that fund based on fewer DWI arrests.

EDEN PRAIRIE

Milfoil eradicated from Staring Lake

The Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District has stopped the spread of Eurasian watermilfoil in Staring Lake thanks to efforts this month.

After the invasive aquatic plant was spotted in the 155-acre lake in Eden Prairie for the first time, Watershed District staff, volunteers and experts waded into the lake and hand-pulled the plants, which were concentrated around the public boat launch and a fishing pier. It was followed by an herbicide treatment the following week. The Watershed District will continue to monitor the lake to see if any plants return.

Eurasian milfoil has infested other west metro waterways such as Lake Minnetonka and Minnehaha Creek, among more than 270 infested lakes and rivers in Minnesota, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.
