How fun was that? Last night's concert at the State Fair grandstand offered such a boisterous, playful, nonstop good time, it was easy to overlook the brevity of the set (75 minutes) and the fact that Weezer only played one song from its best album, 1996's "Pinkerton" (but "El Scorcho" was indeed one of the concert highlights). There was no lack of nostalgia, though. As you can see below, the set list was insteady heavy with songs from the band's 1994 eponymous debut, aka "The Blue Album." More recent standouts including "Pork and Beans," "(If You're Wondering if I Want You to) I Want You to" and especially "Troublemaker" also had an old-school, mid-'90s-car-stereo-blasting quality to them, too.

Click here to read the full review of the concert, which was loaded with fun antics by the not-always fun frontman Rivers Cuomo. I didn't get around to mentioning the grand finale when the whole band got in on the fun, with each member gathering around Josh Freese at the drum kit armed with sticks to bang out a climax to "Buddy Holly." Here's the whole set list leading up to the big bash:

Surf Wax America / We Are All on Drugs / Troublemaker / El Scorcho / Say It Ain't So / Hash Pipe / My Name Is Jonas / Dope Nose / Pumped Up Kicks (Foster the People cover) / Island in the Sun / Perfect Situation / (If You're Wondering if I Want You to) I Want You to / Undone (The Sweater Song) / Pork and Beans / Beverly Hills ENCORE: Paranoid Android (Radiohead cover) / Buddy Holly

One lingering, semi-related thought after last night's show: A big part of what made it such a rowdy and entertaining concert was the atmosphere at the fair grandstand, which a) would be a great place to make hold concerts all summer long, not just during the fair (which we've been saying for years); and b) should be laid out as a general-admission venue more often. One of the last times I had that much fun at a concert was when the Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth also played there in 2006 without all the extra seats.
