UMD closes out DECC with victory

• MINNESOTA DULUTH 2, DENVER 1: Mike Connolly scored a shorthanded goal, Kenny Reiter made 28 saves and the top-ranked Bulldogs beat the No. 10 Pioneers on Saturday night in the final game at the DECC before a sellout crowd of 5,409. Justin Faulk scored a power-play goal for the Bulldogs, who went 459-352-51 at the DECC over 45 seasons. UMD begins playing in the new $70 million AMSOIL Arena on Dec. 30. Connolly's breakaway goal with 64 seconds left in the second period was his second shorthanded goal and his team-high 11th goal this season. Anthony Maiani scored on the power play in the third period for Denver.

• NORTH DAKOTA 6, ST. CLOUD STATE 2: The seventh-ranked Sioux scored four times in a span of 4 minutes, 53 seconds in the first period to sweep the Huskies in Grand Forks, N.D. North Dakota jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one period, getting goals from five players, including Matt Frattin, who picked up his WCHA-leading 15th goal.

• BEMIDJI STATE 3, NEBRASKA-OMAHA 1: Dan Bakala made 39 saves, and Aaron McLeod and Jordan George scored third-period goals as the host Beavers beat the No. 4 Mavericks. Bemidji State's Ian Lowe tied the score with 1 second left in the second period.

COLORADO COLLEGE 5, MICHIGAN TECH 0: Jayden Schwartz had two goals and an assist, Archie Skalbeck also scored twice and Josh Thorimbert made 36 saves in Houghton, Mich., as CC handed the Huskies their eighth loss in a row.
