Wayzata's Tarpley named to U.S. all-star team

Stanford-bound LB/TE will play for Team USA vs. The World

Wayzata senior A.J. Tarpley, a tight end/linebacker who was named Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, is one of 45 players named to the U.S. roster for an all-star football game against a team from outside the U.S. He will take part in USA Football's "Team USA vs. The World" game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 30 at noon ET.

The game matches USA Football's 2010 Junior National Team against a "World" team composed of 45 of the best players aged 19 and under from outside the United States, spanning eight countries on four continents. The game will be televised live by the NFL Network as part of NFL Pro Bowl week.

Players on the World roster come from Canada, American Samoa, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Sweden.

The 6-2, 205-pound Tarpley has signed with Stanford.

USA Football is the sport's national governing body on youth and amateur levels.
