Animal assist. An officer was called to the 6000 block of Omar Avenue Court to dispatch a deer that had suffered two broken legs in a collision with a vehicle. When the officer approached the animal, it got up and tried to run away with two broken back legs. The officer attempted to dispatch it with several shots, but it was able to escape.

MAY 5

Neighbor complaint. A man in the 6000 block of Oakgreen Avenue reported his neighbor across the street was using his chain saw and keeping him awake. He also told police the neighbor had an illegal fire burning. Police advised the man there was no ordinance for using the chain saw when the neighbor was using it. They contacted the neighbor and told him of the complaint and had him put out a burn pile on the property. The complainant called police again later, upset that they hadn't spoken to him after contacting the neighbor.

Suspicious findings. A couple cleaning a ditch near their property in the area of 102nd Street and Manning Avenue reported finding a garbage bag of deer guts. Police contacted Grant Public Works to pick up the bag.

MAY 1

Suspicious activity. Two teenagers were reportedly running down the street in the area of Fenway Avenue and 140th Street carrying guns. Police located the youths, who had Airsoft pellet guns. They were advised to be careful, as the air guns resembled real ones.

MAY 4

Suspicious activity. Police questioned two men loading scrap lumber into a truck at a construction site in the area of Park Avenue and Iris Street. The men displayed an e-mail purportedly giving them permission to take the wood. They were allowed to continue.

MAY 1

County park violation. A man with a dog in Big Marine Park Reserve, 17495 Manning Trail, was cited for not having a park permit and having his dog off leash. The man told an officer he must be having a slow day.

OAKDALE

MAY 1

Inattentive driving. An officer watched a driver holding her phone and pushing its buttons at a stoplight at 10th Street and Hallmark Avenue. When the light changed the vehicle initially didn't move forward, and when it did, it did so slowly. The driver denied she was texting, claiming she wouldn't do that because she had a baby in the vehicle. She was given a citation.

MAY 5

Suspicious activity. Two women carrying a swing set down the street were reported in the 1500 block of Hadley Avenue. The women told police they saw the swing set on Helmo Avenue marked "free." Police were able to confirm the story.

Disturbance. Officers responded to a report of a loud child in an apartment in the 6200 block of 40th Street. A man and woman at the apartment told police the child had been disciplined for misbehaving and was now in bed for the night. When asked about the type of discipline used, the man said the child was "holding up the floor," which he explained as holding a pushup position.

WOODBURY

Tinted taillight covers. Police stopped a vehicle in the 6400 block of Lake Road for having taillight covers tinted too darkly and expired license tabs. The driver was advised he needed a new taillight assembly to make it legal. He was given a verbal warning for the expired tabs.
