For the 10th consecutive season, Washburn will represent the Minneapolis Conference in the Twin City Football game, played annually between the champions of each city's conference.
The game will be played Wednesday at St. Paul Central. Both teams are 7-0, marking the first time since the game was reinstated in 1990 that both teams have gone into the game undefeated.
Washburn's 7-0 record is not totally unblemished, however. The Millers lost to Waseca 27-26 on Sept. 14, but were awarded a forfeit victory when it was discovered that the Blue Jays had used an ineligible player.
It will be third consecutive meeting of Washburn and Central in the game. Central won convincingly in 2010 (56-6) and 2011 (35-0).Party poopers
The Edina football team's 17-6 victory at Eden Prairie on Friday ended the Eagles' 49-game home winning streak that dated to 2004.
It was also the third consecutive game in which Edina had ruined a homecoming celebration for their hosts. The Hornets also defeated Hopkins and Wayzata on their homecomings.
"We're everybody's homecoming opponent, but hopefully we're establishing something good and teams will notice," Edina coach Reed Boltmann said after the victory.1,000 kills and counting
Waconia senior outside hitter Anna Pioske became the third player in school history to record 1,000 career kills when she did it in a three-set victory over Hutchinson last Thursday. The victory clinched the Wright County Conference volleyball championship for the Wildcats.
In the last two weeks, Pioske, who has committed to North Dakota, has averaged 22 kills per match. She has 430 on the season, putting her on pace to break her own school record of 459, set last year.Bright light in Bloomington
It's been a trying football season for winless Bloomington Kennedy, but there have been some bright spots. Senior quarterback Travon Hearns completed 16 of 22 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score Friday in 55-28 loss to Lakeville South.
On the season, Hearns has completed 90 of 172 passes for 1,064 yards and six touchdowns. He has also rushed for 280 yards and a pair of scores.
