MADISON, Wis. — There's at least one thing that will bring Republicans and Democrats together — naming kringle as Wisconsin's official state pastry.
Three Republicans and three Democrats sent Gov. Scott Walker a letter on Monday urging him not to veto a provision in the state budget naming the kringle as the official pastry.
The kringle is a large, round, flat pastry with a hole in the middle made predominantly in Racine County.
The provision was added to the budget by the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee at the urging of Rep. Cory Mason, a Democrat from Racine.
Mason and others who signed the letter say naming it as the official pastry will boost Racine's economy and put southeast Wisconsin "on the culinary map."
Walker has not said if kringle will survive his vetoes.
