The Vikings' first game at U.S. Bank Stadium will be a nationally televised preseason appearance against the San Diego Chargers.

The teams will meet Sunday, Aug. 28 at noon on Fox.

After the Chargers come to town for the third week of the preseason, the Vikings will play host to the Los Angeles Rams in their preseason finale on Thursday, Sept. 1. That is also the same night the Twins host the Chicago White Sox and the Gophers football team opens its season at home vs. Oregon State.

To ensure that construction will be complete at U.S. Bank Stadium, which is scheduled to host an international soccer match and two concerts in August, the NFL has the Vikings on the road for their first two preseason games.

The Vikings open on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals between August 12-14 then travel to play the Seattle Seahawks between August 19-21. Exact dates and times have not been set for the first two games.

The NFL regular season schedule will be released later in April; the first Sunday of the regular season is Sept. 11, although a Thursday game on Sept. 8 is expected to kick off the season.

The league could proceed similarly to the preseason by having the Vikings start the regular season on the road so they can work out potential issues with the new stadium before their official regular-season home opener.

All Vikings preseason games can be seen on Ch. 9.
