Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson hasn't started the past two games, and he won't line up on the first snap against the Jets on Sunday, either.

Offensive coordinator Norv Turner said Charles Johnson will continue to get the nod over Patterson.

"We're going to do what we can to get [Patterson] some opportunities to play there, but [Johnson] is playing at a real high level right now," Turner said.

Johnson played all but one snap against the Panthers last week, while Patterson had a career-low three snaps. It was also the first game Patterson did not record a catch.

"We all get frustrated," Patterson said. "Not just with me, but every receiver. They want the ball, they want to play and opportunities get low sometimes. You just got to be the better person and don't take it too personal."

Turner said Patterson doesn't have to work his way back into the starting position, noting the wide receiver has had some bad luck failing to connect with rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

"Sometimes that's the way it goes," Turner said. "He's doing the things we need him to do, and he had an outstanding day at practice [Wednesday]. I see him being a big-time player in this offense as we go forward."

Peterson hearing ends

The NFL concluded its second day of an appeals hearing for running back Adrian Peterson.

NFL executive Troy Vincent testified in front of hearing officer Harold Henderson. Vincent, who allegedly told Peterson he would be reinstated with "time served" when his court case cleared, was questioned by NFL Players Association attorney Jeffrey Kessler.

Peterson, who has not played since the season opener, was suspended until at least April 15 for pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault for injuring his 4-year-old son with a switch as a form of discipline. He has been on the commissioner's exempt list, with full pay, during his absence.

Taking the blame

Running back Joe Banyard was limited to just five snaps against the Panthers due to a blown pass protection assignment, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said.

"That's important for the backs," Zimmer said. "It's not just carrying the football. It's making sure that when we are throwing the ball that they're protecting the right guys so we can get the ball out."

Matt Asiata started for the injured Jerick McKinnon and played most of the game.

Injury report

Floyd returned to practice but was limited. He sat out on Wednesday due to a lingering knee injury. Floyd played only seven snaps Sunday. Along with Floyd, tight end Rhett Ellison (ankle) returned as well and was limited.

Linebacker Anthony Barr (knee), McKinnon (low back) and cornerback Jabari Price (hamstring) were absent at practice for the second consecutive day.
