Vikings coach Mike Zimmer visited his father, Bill, in Florida last week as Bill Zimmer was in poor health.
Bill Zimmer, 84, passed away last night in Naples, Fla. He had been a longtime high school football and wrestling coach in Illinois.
Update: Mike Zimmer said he would stay with the Vikings through their Saturday night preseason game against Tampa Bay, then fly to Florida on Sunday for Monday's funeral.
Zimmer was emotional following Wednesday's practice when talking about his father. Here is Patrick Reusse's column on the Zimmer family, written when Mike Zimmer was hired by the Vikings early last year.
