The yearly Geminid meteor shower will peak Sunday night, affording skyenthusiasts the possibility of some celestial fireworks. It is on December 13 and 14 that Earth will cross the path of the extinctasteroid known as `3200 Phaethon.` Leftover particles of matter from theasteroid are what become fiery `shooting stars` upon slamming into Earth`satmosphere at breathtakingly high speeds.

Clouds will limit opportunities for seeing the meteor show across much of thenation. The Northern states from Minnesota and Wisconsin to Washington andOregon will see few breaks in the cloudiness. So, too, will the Northeast, andthe Deep South from eastern and southern Texas to Georgia and northern Florida.

Odds will be much better for viewing the sky in peninsular Florida, much ofCalifornia and a corridor from Detroit to Saint Louis to Oklahoma City and ElPaso.
