End of an ice age: North Dakota dropped its women's hockey program after 13 seasons. The school also cut men's and women's swimming and diving.

The impact: Coaches at the remaining 34 Division I women's hockey programs are concerned to see a traditional hockey community drop its women's program. Three recruits from Minnesota have been forced to find new schools.

Goal out of reach: UND President Mark Kennedy has said $60 million is needed to endow the women's hockey program, a figure supporters have said they cannot reach.

Looking for help: The WCHA recently launched an online effort to boost women's hockey sponsorships and charitable donations at rallyme.com/rallies/6546/wcha.
