The next chancellor for the University of Minnesota's Crookston campus was named Monday.

Mary Holz-Clause, at California State Polytechnic (Cal Poly) University Pomona, will succeed Fred Wood, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Her appointment is expected to win final approval by the U's Board of Regents in May.

Holz-Clause is dean of the Huntley College of Agriculture at Cal Poly, overseeing more than 2,000 students, 150 faculty and staff, five departments, and nine farms and enterprises. "I am confident Mary will be a tireless advocate for the University of Minnesota Crookston, and her skills as a fundraiser, marketer and communicator will serve the campus well," University President Eric Kaler said in a statement.

Holz-Clause is a graduate of Iowa State University and spent 25 years working at her alma mater. She and her husband also own and operate a corn/soybean/cattle feedlot in central Iowa.

Crookston has an enrollment of 1,800 undergraduates and offers 34 bachelor's degree programs.
