U men's golfers tie for fifth in Gopher Invitational

The Gophers men's golf team finished in a fifth-place tie in the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence. New Mexico won the 12-team tournament with a total of 4-under-par 848, six strokes better than runner-up Baylor. The Gophers shot a 13-over 865, which tied with Iowa State. The Gophers' Tyler Lowenstein tied for 10th at 1-over 214 after shooting a career-best 70 on Monday.

• The Gophers women's hockey team, the two-time defending national champion, announced that senior forward Bethany Brausen will be the team's captain for the 2013-14 season. Three other seniors — forwards Sarah Davis and Kelly Terry and defenseman Baylee Gillanders — will be assistant captains.

• Gophers senior middle blocker Tori Dixon, last week's Big Ten player of the week, was named the conference defensive player of the week.
