Rapid weakening that will lead to break up and dissipatingwithin 12-24 hours has begun.Mirinae`s landfall happened near Tuy Hoa, between Nha Trang and Qui Nhon, insouthern central Vietnam, marked by damaging winds and flooding rainfall. Up to15 inches of rain fell, including more than 9 inches at Qui Nhon, north of thelandfall.

As Mirinae breaks up, it will track westward over the Vietnam Highland intoCambodia.

Mirinae is the storm that tore through the Philippines as a tropical stormSaturday, unleashing flooding and wind damage in Manila and elsewhere. As manyas 16 deaths have been blamed on the storm in the Philippines.

Like the Philippines, Vietnam is reeling from frequent tropical storms andtyphoons this year. Typhoon Ketsana, for example, was blamed for more than 100deaths in Vietnam after killing almost 1,000 in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the Philippines will once again be watching regional tropicalweather as yet another tropical feature is organizing east of northern LuzonIsland. This system could become Tropical Storm Nida over the next day or so asit heads to the west-northwest. Heavy rain is once again in the offing for thenorthern Philippines.
