Two sales in Wayzata If you missed the American Cancer Society's big Discovery sale two weeks ago, its Relay for Life division is having a sale through Saturday with new (not used, as in the other sale) merchandise discounted 75 percent. Items include garden benches, bird baths, solar garden stakes and educational toys, as well as holiday, wedding and baby items -- all donated by local manufacturers. The sale will be held in the Wayzata Bay Center (927 E. Lake St., Wayzata, 651-255-8134, www.relayforlife.org/brooklyncentermn) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Another sale at the Wayzata Bay Center is the Charles Cudd model-home furniture and accessories sale. Prices are advertised as 30 to 50 percent off, but shop carefully. Those who have already shopped around and compared prices will be the most prepared to identify the best deals. Sale hours are noon to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

White sample sale White never goes out of style, which makes the discounted ceramic dinnerware and tableware samples even a better deal at a sale this weekend in Minnetonka. More than 2,000 pieces will be available, including platters, trays, bowls and plates, mostly in white porcelain. You'll also find wooden tableware, place mats, kitchen electrics and gadgets. Sample savings: a 3-quart covered casserole for $7 (regularly $15), a chip-and-dip platter $7 (regularly $18) and a butter dish for $2 (regularly $5). The sale is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (8401 Wayzata Blvd., Suite 170, Minnetonka, 763-546-0562).

Big deals at Home Depot Home Depot celebrates its spring version of Black Friday -- the day after Thanksgiving when high-interest items are heavily discounted -- with a few specials worth getting excited about. A three-piece patio bistro set -- a 22-inch round table with tempered-glass top and two chairs with seat and back cushions -- is $70, a Ridgid 9-gallon wet-dry vac is $20 and a six-pack of annuals (pansy, dianthus and petunia) is buy-one-get-one-free for $1.98 (limit of 20 packs). Also, buy one bag of cypress mulch for $2.97 and get one free (limit 20), another great deal. The sale runs Thursday through Sunday.

Quick hits The Orpheum Theatre is offering discounts on "Avenue Q," the Tony-winning Broadway musical about puppets and people in New York City. Tickets are $28 to $68, but students pay just $20 each for rush discounts (cash only, two tickets maximum) one hour before the show with a valid student ID. Non-students can try their luck at a lottery. Two hours before showtime, numbers will be given out, and the drawing will be held a half-hour later. Twenty tickets within the first 10 rows will be available at each performance for $25 each (two tickets per person, cash only). Due to adult situations and full puppet nudity, "Avenue Q" might be inappropriate for kids under 13. The show runs Tuesday through April 18.
