A woman who crashed her vehicle into a downtown Hopkins apartment building Thursday was unsure what city she was in when officers arrested her for drunken driving with a blood alcohol content more than four times the legal limit.

Vicki Ann Cossette thought she was in Minnetonka after she slammed her Jeep Liberty into the 400 block of 5th Avenue N. a few minutes before 10 a.m. Officers said they detected a "strong odor" of alcohol as they approached the vehicle and found the 50-year-old woman in the driver's seat, according to a criminal complaint.

Cossette, of Plymouth, admitted that she had been drinking alcohol and needed help to keep from falling when she got out of the vehicle at officers' commands. Cossette was unable to complete on-scene sobriety tests and registered .346 percent blood alcohol content when officers administered a preliminary breath test, the complaint said.

The legal limit for driving is .08 percent.

Cossette was booked into the Hennepin County jail where she remained on Friday. She was charged with refusing to submit to a breath test and third-degree drunken driving, both gross misdemeanors. She had a previous DWI conviction in 2012, court records show.
