Bars and Measures

Opening: Playwright Idris Goodwin brings this new work to the Jungle Theater, with music by jazz composer Justin Ellington. It is based on a true story about brothers (portrayed by Ansa Akyea and Darius Dotch) who use music to bridge the gulfs between them. One brother is free, the other is in jail; one is Christian, the other Muslim. Marion McClinton, the longtime interpreter of August Wilson, makes his directing debut at the Jungle. This production is part of a rolling premiere across the country of Goodwin's new play. (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 7:30 p.m. Tue.-Thu. Ends Oct. 9; Jungle Theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. $35-$48, 612-822-7063 or jungletheater.com)
