TWINS UPDATE

This is the conclusion of a five-game road trip, but the beginning of a four-game matchup with the Cardinals. The teams will meet Wednesday and Thursday at Target Field as well as part of an interleague home-and-home. … After a terrific May (20-7), the Twins have stumbled in June and fallen into second place in the AL Central, ending a five-game losing streak Sunday by beating Texas 4-3 to improve to 4-9 for the month. Even with 11 hits Sunday, they are hitting only .215 (91-for-424) this month. … 2B Brian Dozier had two more extra-base hits Sunday to give him 36 this season, most in the AL. … OF Shane Robinson was drafted by the Cardinals and played five seasons in St. Louis, batting .233 with five home runs in 268 games. He hit a critical home run that won Game 4 of the 2013 NLCS against the Dodgers. "The people in St. Louis were always great to me, so it'll be great to go back and see everybody," Robinson said. "It'd be great to beat them, too."

CARDINALS UPDATE

The Cardinals and Royals were rained out Sunday, so St. Louis pushed its rotation a day back, with Lackey, Sunday's original starter, getting the call against the Twins instead. Lackey, a long-time American League pitcher, is 8-6 with a 3.10 ERA in 18 career starts against the Twins. … At 41-21, the Cardinals own the best record in baseball, and they are up six games in the NL Central, which they have won the past three seasons. They are 24-7 at home, the only team that has yet to lose 10 home games. They have won three games in a row and are 14-5 since May 24. … They are 10-8 all-time against the Twins and 8-4 at home. But the Twins won two of three in their only other trip to the new Busch Stadium, in June 2009. … They have scored 247 runs, which ranks only 11th in the NL. But they have allowed an MLB-low 179 runs. … Closer Trevor Rosenthal has 21 saves in 22 opportunities, and has converted 13 in a row.
