TWINS UPDATE

The Twins will play two games at Target Field in about 22 hours, then go back on the road, where they are 26-31, for another week. They are 24-29 at home but only 4-11 in their past 15 games there. … They are 11-3 all-time against the Padres, incuding 3-0 in Target Field, where the Padres last visited in 2011. … Both of their starting pitchers have been much better on the road this year. Hughes is 3-5 with a 5.51 ERA, while Correia is 2-8 with a 6.98 ERA at home this year. But both pitchers registered victories in the Twins' two-game sweep in San Diego on May 21-22.

PADRES UPDATE

They have a virtually identical record to the Twins, but they have won five of six games, against playoff contenders Atlanta and St. Louis at home. … They will use two successful rookie pitchers in this series. Hahn hasn't given up more than three runs in any of his eight starts since his debut and is 4-0 with a 1.50 ERA in four road starts. Deespaigne has given up more than two earned runs only once in seven starts. … Joaquin Benoit, who inherited the closer job when Huston Street was traded to the Angels last month, has held the Twins to a .210 average in 45 career games.
