The Twins are trying to avoid using reliever Ryan Pressly too much down the stretch. Pressly entered Thursday leading the AL with 69 appearances, and manager Paul Molitor said before the game that Pressly would not be used in back-to-back game the rest of the season. So the Twins turned to rookie righthanders on Thursday to hold a lead into the late innings. J.T. Chargois replaced Hector Santiago in the sixth and got one out. That made it six scoreless appearances for Chargois after getting knocked around a bit; During those six appearances, he's given up one hit while facing 19 batters. Now, that hit allowed an inherited runner to score, but one step at a time here. Molitor said that Chargois is doing a much better job of getting ahead of hitters and then using all his pitches. I've noticed that he's mixing in a slider more, and is throwing it for strikes, Alex Wimmers did the heavy lifting. The 27 year old rookie tossed two scoreless innings to get the ball to Brandon Kintzler in the ninth, Wimmers throws four pitches but has an above average change up. He had good command on Thursday. I was waiting for the boom in the seventh inning, when Wimmers gave up a one out single to Jose Iglesias to bring Miguel Cabrera to the plate. Cabrera worked the count to 3-2, and I was trying to figure out what Wimmers would throw. Cabrera can wait on a change and hit it 425 feet to right field. Wimmers went with a 92 mile an hour fastball that dropped out of the zone. Cabrera hit into a double play to end the inning. Wimmers then threw a 1-2-3 eighth, in what was his finest outing of his brief major league career. The bullpen kept it together on Thursday, allowing the Twins to win and split the series,
