The Twins have claimed outfielder Sam Fuld after he was designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics last week.
Darin Mastroianni has been designated for assignment. Mastroianni was 0-for-11 with five strikeouts after being called up on April 10. He appeared in seven games, mostly as a substitute.
Fuld, 32, started the season with Oakland and was batting (.200), 6 for 30, with two triples and a home run before he was released. The home run came against the Twins on April 10.
He played previously for the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay, and has a career .233 average in 743 at-bats. Fuld will join the Twins on Tuesday when they open a three-game series against the Rays.
