The Twins have notified Ryan Lefebvre that he won't be replacing John Gordon as the team's radio play-by-play voice, a person familiar with the discussions said.

Insiders had Lefebvre, 40, pegged as the favorite to land the job. He worked on Twins radio and TV broadcasts from 1995 to 1998 and has spent the past 13 years working radio and TV for the Royals. He interviewed for the radio job last month in Minnesota.

For now, it's unclear which person the Twins plan to hire. Other known candidates include Kris Atteberry, from the Twins current broadcast team, Class AAA Rochester radio voice Josh Whetzel and Brewers broadcaster Cory Provus.

Update: Andy Price, the Twins senior director of broadcasting and game presentation, said the team is still narrowing its list and hasn't yet picked the new radio voice. He said the hire could be made within a week.

Whetzel also has been told that he's out of the running. We've heard Josh Lewin's name, but I spoke with him tonight, and he said he hasn't been contacted about the position.
