A couple quick thoughts following the Twins loss to Boston:

MAUER MAD ABOUT CALL: It was a tough at bat for Joe Mauer in the eighth inning. He worked the count full and, by everyone's account, Craig Kimbrel threw ball four to him. The Twins would have had two men on with one out. But home plate umpire Dan Iassonga called it a strike. Mauer was as upset as I've ever seen him. He walked over to Iassonga as he questioned the call. "It's not my opinion that matters," Mauer said. "Which is unfortunate." I do believe that Iassonga botched the call and ruined a potentially bigger inning for the Twins. But I will also suggest this: A 3-2 count with a runner on third an the infield pulled in, take a swing Joe. A slapshot to left scores a run, ties the game and keeps Matt Belisle from entering the game. The breaking ball was up in the zone, a pitch he can handle. Take a rip.

IT'S TIME FOR BERRIOS: I get what the Twins are trying to do with Jose Berrios. They want to make sure that his outings at Rochester are from quality pitching and not from Class AAA hitters chasing pitches that MLB hitters won't. They want to make sure that Berrios has good fastball command and is throwing his other pitches for strikes before they call him up again. But the Twins are running out of options and might have no choice but to call him up to start Saturday in Cleveland. He's 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA with the Red Wings. You want Berrios to learn how to get major league hitters out. He can't do that in Rochester. Berrios gave up one earned run over 6.2 innings on Sunday, on 96 pitches. He gave up six hits, including four doubles, with no walks and four strikeouts..
