Byron Buxton received another honor for his outstanding fielding on Friday, as the Twins center fielder was named Major League Baseball's Wilson Defensive Player of the Year.
The recognition came three days after the 23-year-old received his first Gold Glove. Unlike the Gold Gloves, which are voted on by managers and coaches, the Wilson Award winner is determined using sabermetrics.
The award was created in 2012 with one going to each league, but in 2014 the award was condensed to one overall winner.
Buxton led all center fielders with 24 defensive runs saved, according to the website FanGraphs.
Wilson also honors players at each position; Buxton, as the center fielder, was the only Twins honoree. Twins second baseman Brian Dozier received a Gold Glove on Tuesday, but he lost out on the Wilson honor to Colorado's D.J. LeMahieu, the NL Gold Glove winner.
