Audra and orchestra

Broadway powerhouse and TV star Audra McDonald could rest on her laurels. After all, she's won a record six Tonys for a performer, including one each as a leading and supporting actress in both musicals and plays (also a record). She's added two Grammys and an Emmy, the latter from a screen career that has seen her play Dr. Naomi Bennett on ABC's "Private Practice" and now a commanding attorney in "The Good Fight," the CBS All Access streaming series. But McDonald continues to challenge herself and find new ways of deepening the stage work that she loves. In September 2015, she sold out two concerts to kick off the Minnesota Orchestra season. Now the famed soprano rejoins the orchestra for a Sommerfest concert of reinterpreted show tunes and standards conducted by Andy Einhorn, musical director for the current Broadway revivals of "Carousel" and "Hello Dolly!" (8 p.m. Fri., Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall, Mpls. $55-$130. Tickets limited. 612-371-5600 or minnesotaorchestra.org.)
