That'll be the night

In what has to be a sheer coincidence, TV is offering two ways to honor the Day the Music Died. 1978's "The Buddy Holly Story" (7 p.m. THIS) still holds up, thanks to a pre-bonkers Gary Busey, who captures the spirit and enthusiasm of the Texas rocker. Then there's 1987's "La Bamba" (7 p.m. VH1 Classic), featuring the terrific music of Ritchie Valens. Try as we might, we could not find any features on the Big Bopper.

Fashion sense

Actress Elisabeth Moss applies what she's learned about fashion from "Mad Men" when she serves as guest judge on "Project Runway," which has the contestants designing age-appropriate clothes for the all-American girl. 8 p.m. Lifetime

The Twi-dark Zone

I'm not sure what to make of "Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories," a new series of short films from the acclaimed comedy team that feel like Rod Serling after a few too many rounds of whiskey. If these story lines — which include Bob Odenkirk developing an addiction to eating toes and a cul-de-sac resident trying to fatten up his neighbors — are meant more to disturb than to draw laughs, then mission accomplished. 11:15 p.m. Adult Swim
