In "After Life," Ricky Gervais plays a recent widower who deals with loss by insulting everyone around him. It's an all-too-obvious excuse for him to get away with rude behavior without being pegged as a jerk. The approach may help polish his public image, but it tarnishes his reputation as a daredevil comic.

As behind-the-music documentaries go, it's hard to top "John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky," an intimate look at the making of the "Imagine" album. Look past the layers of cigarette smoke to watch John Lennon introduce George Harrison to "How?" at the piano and Yoko Ono passing notes to her husband during recording sessions.

"Punk," a four-part docuseries, does its fair share of romanticizing the genre's key players, most notably Iggy Pop, who just happens to be one of the executive producers. But the first episode isn't shy about picking at some scabs, particularly when it comes to rampant drug use and some of the bands' less-than-impressive early days. Yes, I'm talking about you, Blondie!
