Hawkeye state of mind

No Minnesotans are checking into the "Big Brother" house this season, but if you're looking for locals to cheer on, consider our neighbor to the south. Iowa has two contestants: Cody Nickson, a construction sales rep from Lake Mills, and Jason Dent, a rodeo clown from Humeston.

Riding shotgun

A friend who worked for George W. Bush swore that the commander-in-chief had a terrific sense of humor but was too guarded to let it show. Now unshackled by the weight of the office, Bush seems freer to show off some of that wit. His appearance on the season premiere of "Jay Leno's Garage" may be on the hammy side, but we'll give him a pardon, especially since he was generous enough to recruit the former first lady for a good-natured practical joke on the show's amiable host/victim.

8 p.m., CNBC

View to a kill

"Broadchurch" returns for its third and final season with a new case but plenty of baggage left over from the murder that set the show in motion. The best thing about the series remains the contrast between the dour faces of the lead detectives (perfectly matched David Tennant and Olivia Colman) and the shots of the scenic seaside town.
