Still on the beat

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has transferred from Fox to NBC without a hitch. The early episodes of Season 6, which premieres Thursday night, have the same giddy spirit that the series showed in its Golden Globe-winning rookie year. The show's much bigger challenge will come later this season when scene stealer Chelsea Peretti departs as a regular cast member. Enjoy her while you can.

Family reunion

"Fam," which centers around a daughter (Nina Dobrev) trying to reconnect with her rebellious sister and even more rebellious dad, is yet another network sitcom that thinks a few sexual innuendos and jokes about digesting pot qualify as edgy. Despite the PG-rated trappings, Gary Cole does the best he can, playing a father who is almost boastful about his negligence, and Odessa Adlon shows she inherited the comic timing and sass of her mother, "Better Things" creator Pamela Adlon. It's safe to predict that better things are in the young actress' future.
