Paradise lost

They say any publicity is good publicity, but the producers behind "Bachelor in Paradise" may beg to differ. The series returns under a cloud of scrutiny after investigators looked into allegations of misconduct involving at least two contestants. No charges were filed, but the network had to delay the premiere and pull an ill-advised advertisement that seemed to make light of the situation. How the show deals with the backstage drama should be more fascinating than finding out who hooked up.

A 2014 version of the legal drama "Rake" starring Greg Kinnear never passed the bar in America, but the Australian original is still going strong with Richard Roxburgh ("Moulin Rouge!") still scrounging enough lowlifes to defend. The guest roster includes "Harry Potter" actress Miriam Margolyes and John Waters.

White lies

Ed Westwick hasn't cleaned up his act much since causing tongues to wag on "Gossip Girl." In the British series "White Gold," he's a dishonest salesman trying to make a living in the 1980s. Fans of "The Inbetweeners" will recognize a lot of the names on-screen and behind the camera.
