Cummings and goings

It's the season finale of "Whitney" (7 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11) and if there's any justice in the world, it won't be coming back. Whitney Cummings is a talented stand-up and an engaging presence, but a mainstream network sitcom just isn't right for her. A PG Cummings is a dull Cummings. Let's hope her return to television is on an edgier platform.

East Enders

The producers of "Downton Abbey" are hoping you'll be just as entranced by their other series, "Whitechapel" (9 p.m., BBC America), a detective show that uses history to help solve modern-day crimes in London's East End. Sounds intriguing, but it'd probably be better if they added a couple of butlers.

Girls, girls, girls

Those eagerly anticipating the new HBO series "Girls" -- in which Lena Dunham deals with the challenges of being a young single woman -- might want to check out her breakthrough film, "Tiny Furniture" (9:20 p.m., Sundance), in which Dunham deals with the challenges of being a young single woman. "Girls" premieres April 15.
