The big chair You can't kill the controversy that surrounds the death penalty. "Final Judgment" (9 p.m. Friday, Investigation Discovery) looks at a dramatic case that winds up in a familiar courtroom, one presided over by Judge Lance Ito. As far as we know, there won't be any cameos by Kato Kaelin, but it's Los Angeles. Anything can happen.

Something wild Jeff Bridges' much-anticipated performance in the Coen brothers' "True Grit" doesn't mark the first time he's played a cowboy. One of Bridges' more intriguing westerns was 1995's "Wild Bill" (7 p.m. Sunday, WUCW, Ch. 23), a biopic about Will Bill Hickok that shot blanks in the eyes of most critics. I don't disagree, but Bridges' take on the legendary gunslinger is worth exploring.

The great slate Tony Curtis once told me that his favorite movie was 1965's "The Great Race" (11:30 p.m. Sunday, TCM), so it's appropriate that the romp, co-starring Jack Lemmon, is part of TCM's 24-hour tribute to the charismatic actor who passed away late last month. Sitting in the "sweet" spot: 1957's "The Sweet Smell of Success" (7 p.m. Sunday, TCM). The dialogue between Curtis and Burt Lancaster still crackles.

You can get it "Austin City Limits" (9 p.m. Sunday, TPTL) is moving into a bigger house, but not before saying goodbye to Studio 6A in style. It's a season-long, star-studded lineup including Lyle Lovett, Rosanne Cash, the Black Keys and Steve Martin. Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff kicks things off with both classic and new numbers.
