Osseo's defense sparks comeback OSSEO 55, CHAMPLIN PARK 54: The Class 4A, No. 2 Orioles showed they can win with defense on Tuesday night. Tenth-rated Champlin Park led throughout the game, but a great defensive stance by Osseo in the closing seconds got the ball back on a 5-second call. Orioles senior guard Terez Vanpelt then won the game with a tip-in at the buzzer. Vanpelt led all scorers with 18 points.

EAGAN 60, ROSEMOUNT 58: The location doesn't matter -- football field or basketball court, Wildcats senior Jameson Parsons is known for last-second heroics. Parsons hit a jumper from the right baseline with one second left, giving Eagan a victory over the Irish. He finished with 15 points.

WHITE BEAR LAKE 69, ROSEVILLE 66: Junior guard Nick Wieland picked a good time to score his only points of the game. He hit two key free throws with 15.2 seconds remaining in the game, giving White Bear Lake the lead for good in its victory over Class 4A, No. 8 Roseville in Suburban East play. Bears senior guard Nathan Sheldon led all scorers with a season-high 26 points, and was 3-for-4 from the free-throw line during the final minute. Senior guard David Stanley paced Roseville with 20 points.

ROGERS 86, CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI 53: Bluejackets senior guard Ted Lutterman was held in check by the Royals defense, which only allowed him two three-pointers after he made 22 in a two-game stretch last week. Lutterman finished with 16 points. The Royals had five players in double figures, led by junior center Michael Schreiber with 14.

SHAKOPEE 70, RED WING 69 (5 OT): With the Wingers up three in the first overtime, Sabres senior forward Kevin Carlson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to extend the game, and did he ever. Later, at the end of the fourth overtime Red Wing senior guard Pat Kelly hit a driving layup to force a fifth overtime. With both teams fatigued, scoring was at a premium in what would turn out to be the final extra session, with Shakopee outscoring Red Wing 3-2. Ethan Petrill had a game-high 23 points for Shakopee.

ST. MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE 45, BUFFALO 41: After trailing by nine points in the first half, the Knights rallied past the Bison in the Mississippi 8. St. Michael-Albertville went on a 21-0 run to start the second half, led by junior guard Michael Wiese's four three-pointers. Wiese finished with 12 points.

ST. THOMAS ACADEMY 62, SIMLEY 57 (OT): After a missed three-pointer at the regulation buzzer for Simley, it was the Cadets who controlled the overtime. Junior guard Thomas Sjoberg was the difference in overtime, scoring five of the Cadets' nine overtime points. He finished with 25.

GIRLS' Basketball

APPLE VALLEY 60, BURNSVILLE 59: Eagles sophomore Jaryn Pipkins made a basket with 15 seconds remaining, giving Apple Valley a one-point victory over the Blaze in the South Suburban. Apple Valley senior Jordan Sammons scored her 1,000th point early in the game and finished with 24 points. Junior Jessica Buck led the Blaze with a season-high 24 points.

NORTHFIELD 49, HOLY ANGELS 48: Senior guard Elena Huber made two free throws with 21 seconds left, lifting the Raiders over the Stars in the Missota. Holy Angels had three decent looks at the basket in the waning seconds, but couldn't convert on any of them. Raiders sophomore center Allyson Harris was the game's only double-digit scorer with 15 points.

EDEN PRAIRIE 81, MINNETONKA 66: The Class 4A, No. 2 Eagles scored 44 points in the first half, and cruised past the Skippers in the Lake. Eden Prairie's three leading scorers -- Morgan Van Riper-Rose, Shayne Mullaney and Jackie Johnson -- combined for 54 points. Van Riper-Rose finished with a game-high 22 points. Johnson, a junior forward, had nine assists.

TOTINO-GRACE 62, MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST 52: Senior guard Kaeli Kraska set a milestone and did a little bit of everything to lead the Eagles past the Lakers. Kraska scored a game-high 23 points, including the 1,000th of her career, while going 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. She also added eight steals and six assists. Micah Thornquist led Southwest with 21 points.

MAPLE GROVE 69, CENTENNIAL 57: The Crimson defense took charge in the second half, creating turnovers and holding the Cougars to 22 second-half points in the Northwest Suburban victory. Ellen Edison paced three Maple Grove players in double figures with 16 points. Centennial senior guard Kahla Becken had a game-high 27 points, including six three-pointers. The Cougars played without junior forward Danika Gieske, who will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury.

CLASS 2A

• SECTION 3: Jordan Jeske scored the game-winning goal 2 minutes, 50 seconds into the third period when Park of Cottage Grove pulled away from Rosemount for a 6-2 victory in the first round. The Wolfpack scored four goals in the third period. Teammates Zachary Schwartz and Joey Pierre scored 32 seconds apart later in the period to put the game away.

CLASS 1A

• SECTION 1: Red Wing scored five times in each of the first two periods, and went on to beat Mankato East 13-1 in the opening round. Five players -- Tyler Grove, Taylor Hanson, Marcus Nossen, Ryan Rehder and Jack Strusz -- had two goals apiece for the Wingers. Nossen and Strusz also had four assists. Red Wing outshot Mankato East 59-6. ... Northfield struck quickly against Austin, scoring three goals in a 62-second span of the first period en route to a 9-0 victory. Michael Vogel started the spurt with his second goal, followed by tallies from Andrew Scofield and Colton Woodruff.
