Even a team as resilient as the Twins have been for much of this season will have a hard time overcoming glorious opportunities wasted against a pitcher as dominant as David Price.

As such, when the Toronto pitcher was able to wriggle free of a bases-loaded, no-outs situation in the fourth inning Monday — a mess he helped create with two walks — without allowing a run, anyone who has watched baseball long enough knew what was likely to follow. The game was still 1-1 at that point, but the outcome (5-1 Toronto was the final score) felt like an inevitability.
