It might finally be Tebow Time.
Per a tweet from Manish Mehta, expect the Jets to make a switch next week.
Not that it’s something we’ve been clamoring for, though it does at least bring a bit of intrigue into next week’s Jets game.
We thought Tim Tebow was overrated last year – the beneficiary of good timing and a wave of positive vibes. But at this point, the Jets have nothing to lose (or win) after Mark Sanchez was just so awful against the Titans in a 14-10 loss that the Jets have been knocked out of playoff contention.
Sanchez threw four interceptions and lost a late fumble. His QB rating was an abysmal 32.6. His Total QBR (average of 50) was 6.8.
To put that in perspective for the Vikings QB-grumbling crowd, Christian Ponder threw for 258 yards and two TDs in a 30-7 victory over the Titans this year. He attempted more than twice as many passes (35) as Adrian Peterson did runs (17).
Tebow played one series Monday, not doing anything at all, but in doing so finished with better numbers than Sanchez.
The long-term intrigue, of course, becomes what the Jets will do with Sanchez. He is virtually untradeable because of his salary cap number, which makes him almost impossible to cut as well.
In other words, it’s a fine mess New York created by ignoring Sanchez’s past mediocrity – and by creating this so-called dilemma between going with Sanchez or Tebow – the No. 23 and No. 28 rated QBs, respectively, in 2011.
