Anthony Tucker, the 2008 Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year in boys' basketball, has asked for and been granted a release from his scholarship at the University of Iowa. Tucker, from Minnetonka High School, had a troubled career of less than two seasons with the Hawkeyes, including two alcohol-related incidents and academic issues. There is no word on what his next step will be.

Tucker played in 11 games this season. In his two years with the Hawkeyes, Tucker saw action in 25 games, with 19 starts, averaging 11 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Tucker's fellow members of the 2008 All-Metro first team included some players who have gone on to pretty good collegiate careers. That cast also included Notre Dame football star Michael Floyd, Wisconsin Badgers hoopsters Jordan Taylor and Jared Berggren, and Raymond Cowles, now playing basketball at Santa Clara.
