When Jeff Bridges is at the Oscars next month for "True Grit," Jane Leverenz of Mankato will be taking a special interest in his feet.

She happens to know them quite well, even down to the size. (It's 13, in case you're wondering.)

Leverenz and fellow knitter Melissa Seitzer, also of Mankato, were commissioned to make two pairs of socks for Joel and Ethan Coen's new adaptation of "True Grit."

"The costumer wanted hand-knit socks for this movie because they wanted them to be authentic," Leverenz said.

The two knitters found the job through contacts Seitzer made while working as a costumer in Hollywood.

"At the time, I didn't have time to knit them, and I knew Jane had quick fingers," said Seitzer, who had also worked on the Coens' previous film, "A Serious Man."

This isn't the first time the two women have collaborated on knits for Hollywood, though. They made two ski masks for the popular AMC drama series "Breaking Bad."

The socks -- two simple gray pairs -- were worn by Bridges, who stars as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, and by Peter Leung, who plays a shopkeeper.

"When I found out who the socks were for, I thought I wouldn't be starstruck, but I was," Leverenz said with a laugh.

She hasn't seen "Breaking Bad," but she has gone to see her socks in "True Grit" three times.

"Jeff Bridges had his feet onscreen for a while, so it was kind of like, 'Yeah! I made those!'"
