Athletes to watch

Eli Hylen, jr., St. Francis

Broke the previous 34-year-old school record in high jump last spring, then capped her season with the Class 2A state meet-winning leap of 6-feet, 8 inches.

 

Joel Smith, sr., Mounds View

Set a new program mark in the 300-meter hurdles last spring and then lowered it with a mark of 37.81 seconds to win the Class 2A state meet.

 

Declan Dahlberg, sr., Mounds Park Academy

Ready to defend his Class 1A title in the 1,600-meter run and perhaps accomplish a distance running sweep with a 3,200 victory. He placed second at state last year.

Shae Buchman, sr., Rosemount

Won the Class 2A state title in the 100 hurdles and placed second in the long jump. She’ll compete in the 300 hurdles and one of Rosemount’s sprint relays.

 

T’Nia Riley, sr., Minneapolis North

The fastest female in Class 1A. She won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at state the past two seasons.

 

Tierney Wolfgram, fr., Math and Science Academy

Poised to sweep the distance running “triple crown” for the second consecutive season. She won the past two Class 1A cross-country titles and is the defending 1,600 and 3,200 champion.
