The political bug

"The Good Wife" had a great run, even though it could never quite keep up with its primary challenger, "The Walking Dead." Producers Michelle and Robert King appear to be nodding to its former competition in "BrainDead," their new drama that suggests Congress may be vulnerable to an insider zombie attack. Perhaps someone should build a wall.

Still on the case

"Major Crimes," once best known as a spinoff of "The Closer," has established itself as a fine procedural all on its own, thanks to the unflappable Mary McDonnell as L.A.'s most sensible police captain and her not-so-secret weapon, Lt. Louie Provenza, who has been played by G.W. Bailey for more than a decade. The actor should win some kind of endurance award as he previously starred as Rizzo in the long-running "M*A*S*H" series and endured six "Police Academy" films.

A-maze-ing race

Twin Cities middle-school teacher Chris Johnson hopes his experience corralling kids serves him well when he tackles the world's toughest obstacle courses in "Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge," a new competition series produced by the same folks who brought us "American Ninja Warrior." If Johnson wins, he shares in a $250,000 cash prize — and earns a lifetime hall pass.
