American candidates

Film historians will argue on end about the best decades for movies, but to me, nothing beats the 1970s, an era in which the studios gave directors more free rein than usual. TCM honors that period every Thursday in July, starting with a focus on American classics kicking off with 1976's "All the President's Men." That's followed by "The Candidate," "Network," "The Conversation" and "Klute." Hard to beat that slate.

Dazed and confused

In "Party Legends," Margaret Cho, Eric Andre and Dennis Rodman share their most drunken adventures in animated shorts that are definitely not for youngsters. If your late-night exploits can be related only in cartoon form, you may want to get a new set of friends.

Overseas education

Comedies about coming of age in the 1980s go beyond the John Hughes library and even U.S. borders. The Indian film "Brahman Naman" has warmed hearts on the festival trail, thanks to director Qaushiq Mukherjee's affectionate take on his college-aged characters, who are desperate to lose their virginity.
