A member of the Magic for just four months, the Timberwolves' Marcus Georges-Hunt nonetheless feels like it's a bit of a homecoming come back to Orlando for tonight's game.
Georges-Hunt (left) played five games with the Magic late last season after he signed with them on April 3, went to summer-league play with the team and thought he had a future there until it changed management and brought it other plays.
He was released July 31 and signed 12 days later with the Wolves, who have found a place for him with a small but specific defensive role in Tom Thibodeau's rotation.
That make-good contract became fully guaranteed last week for the rest of the season. Thibodeau said this morning that Georges-Hunt has given his Wolves team just what it needed, toughness.
"He's a good prospect," Magic coach Frank Vogel said. "We were high on him."
Asked before this morning's shooting around if he not that long ago felt his future was in Orlando, he said, "At one point, but it didn't go as planned. Another door opened, so take advantage of that one. It has worked out so far. I'm just taking it day by day and trying to get better each day."
He didn't stay long, but Georges-Hunt said he's still remembered there.
"Yeah, a little bit," he said when asked if he considers tonight's game against the 12-31 Magic something of a homecoming. "Fans, they still send me messages on social media, congratulating me on past accomplishments, my contract getting guaranteed. Yeah, it grew on me a little bit."
