It was with genuine curiosity and a little fear that, this morning, we delved into Packerland to see what folks across the border were thinking about Brett Favre QBing the Vikings to the NFC title game. Were they rooting for him now that their team had been eliminated? Were they still bitter?

Results? Inconclusive, which is how we like them.

*Over at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, you must be a Packers Insider subscriber (which we are not) to read a story entitled "Old man Favre is worth rooting for." The conflicted headline -- simultaneously denigrating Favre and celebrating him -- probably gives us the gist.

What about message boards? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. You don't want to go there? Luckily, we read Packerforum this morning so you don't have to! Here were the two conflicting takeaway fan posts (sic):

*I am still trying to reconcile how a "Packer fan" is cheering for the Vikings... That is a mind blower... Sort of like saying, "well, my wife and I just got divorced so I decided to date men until she dumps her new boyfriend..." Makes no sense to me, but to each their own I guess...

*We all pick and choose, but I fail to see how hating Minnesota makes Green Bay a better franchise. At the moment, I am enjoying the Packers and Vikings equally. Even if I hated the Vikings, I would still choose to support a franchise from within the North, during those instances the Packers either don't make the playoffs, or don't advance.

So one fan equates cheering for Favre to same-sex dating, while another just wants to see an NFC North team win. What about over at the Green Bay Gazette? What are commenters saying on stories over there? (Sic, including two different misspellings of "favorite!")

*I'm not pulling for the Vikes Sunday. And I'm not rooting for BF either. Do I hate the man, no, how do you hate someone you don't even know? This is NFL football, not a Sunday brunch. I not only hope the Vikings loose, I hope they loose BIG. Like I said before, I don't care if Aaron Rodgers was quarterbacking the Vikes this week, I hope they go down if flames. I don't have a second favotire team, I don't have a second favorite QB, my favortie QB is who ever is starting for the Green Bay Packers, period!

*So far the comments here are about 50/50 for and against #4, I've decided to add myself to the "for" column...Go NFC North, Go Vikings, Go Brett. I hope you get that SB trophy and can finally retire in peace.

Ah, the turmoil. We have to say we're surprised it's even 50/50. Imagine if KG had, instead of heading to Boston, gone to a rival team (which first requires the Wolves to have a rival) and won a title. Could you have embraced that? What if Joe Mauer signed with the White Sox and won the World Series? It's really hard for us to imagine fans rooting for the Whities in that scenario. That said, this could be one of those rare times when Vikings fans and a lot of Packers fans are unified. Let us be heartened and terrified all at once.
