Three Rivers Park District to discuss new cross-country ski trail at Hyland in Bloomington

May 12, 2013 at 12:29AM

It may be spring, but the Three Rivers Park District is already thinking about winter and a new $6 million cross-country ski trail project that it is planning for Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington.

The district has proposed a 5-kilometer trail loop from the Hyland Visitor Center to the Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area. The project would install water pipes, pumping and electrical equipment to provide snowmaking capabilities and trail lighting. The loop would use existing trails and service roads within the park to minimize the impact on natural resources.

Officials said the project would provide consistent snow conditions for recreational cross-country skiers and high school ski meets. As planned, the trail could be open in time for the holiday break in December.

An open house to discuss the project, take comments and answer questions will be held Tuesday between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Hyland Visitor Center, 10145 Bush Lake Road.
