Three Rivers Park District to change Cedar Lake LRT Trail crossing

September 28, 2013 at 7:55PM

Three Rivers Park District and Hopkins officials are planning to improve trail safety where the popular Cedar Lake LRT Regional Trail crosses Excelsior Blvd.

Two segments of the existing paved trail will be removed to prevent bikers from crossing the boulevard at its junction with Milwaukee Street. Officials said that location is too congested and unsafe.

Instead, bikers will be rerouted to cross Excelsior at the stoplight near the Hopkins Depot parking lot. The trail will travel parallel to Excelsior on the north side of the road before crossing St. Louis Street to rejoin the existing trail route.

The $25,000 project will also include more signage and two new pedestrian ramps.

The project is expected to begin in late October and be completed in November. Trail users will be asked to follow posted detours.

The public can learn more about the project and provide feedback at an open house on Oct. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hopkins Depot, 9451 Excelsior Blvd.
