A third Minneapolis man has been convicted of firing bullets that left six people wounded and nearly struck several police officers last fall, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday.

Maurice Carter, 26, was involved in a gunfight just after bar closing time on Sept. 12, 2015, on 5th Street near Hennepin Avenue, authorities say. About 50 people were leaving nightclubs when Carter and two other men sprayed bullets toward the intersection, almost striking nearby officers, according to the criminal complaint.

Police arrested Carter and found a loaded gun in his waistband, court records show.

On Friday, Hennepin County Judge William Koch found Carter guilty of five counts of assault and one count of reckless discharge of a firearm. Carter is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Detroit Davis-Riley pleaded guilty in April to multiple charges, and the third gunman, DeMarco Gunn, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in March. Gunn was wounded during the shooting.

The complaints against all three men offered little about the motive for the gunfire, other than "a verbal altercation" among rivals.
