'South Pacific'
Continuing: Rodgers and Hammerstein's romantic tale of World War II has settled in for the summer at the Guthrie. Erin Mackey and Edward Staudenmayer portray Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque — the American nurse and the French plantation owner who fashion a relationship in an exotic realm. Standouts are Jimmy Kieffer as Luther Billis, Steve Hendrickson as an aging general and Christine Toy Johnson as Bloody Mary. Director Joseph Haj articulates well the musical's racial tensions. (7:30 p.m. Fri., Tue. and Thu.; 1 & 7:30 p.m. Sat. and Wed.; 7 p.m. Sun. $34-$89. Ends Aug. 28. Guthrie Theater, 818 S. 2nd St., Mpls. 612-377-2224, guthrietheater.org.)
